Travis Grant is Fast…Travis Grant is FIRST!

Travis Grant is Fast…Travis Grant is FIRST!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

HONOLULU (May 9, 2012) - One year ago at the Battle of the Paddle Hawaii, Travis Grant (AUS) lined up for his first race under the C4 Waterman label. Beneath his feet was a brand new 12’6 custom race board shaped by Dave Parmenter. In his hands was one of the first prototypes of the C4 X-Wing paddle.

After clinching gold on the same board at the ISA games in Peru in (March), Travis brought it back to Hawaii for the Quiksilver Waikiki Paddle Festival last weekend and ran away with first place in Jamie Mitchell’s own elite “Survivor SUP” Race. Danny Ching second, Mitchell third.

That result capped off a perfect 12-month trifecta of elite race victories that has both the C4 brand and Travis soaring.

“There is something magic about this board and paddle combination, I don’t know what it is exactly but it’s so fast,” said Grant, “and the paddle is like doing 80% of the effort with 100% of the results.”

“Lets not forget that obviously Travis is an amazing athlete” said Todd Bradley, CEO of C4 Waterman. “He deserves a huge amount of recognition. What we’ve done is simply utilize the C4 data bank of SUP and paddling knowledge to providing him with the best tools in the market place.”

C4 Waterman released Travis’ winning board, now called the TGIF Pro Model, in August 2011 at the Outdoor Retailer trade show along with the X-Wing paddle. The TGIFproduction board has been widened by 1″ from the original to accommodate more paddlers. All other specs and design characteristics remain unchanged.

C4 Waterman Prepares for 2012 Waikiki Paddle Festival

C4 Waterman Athletes to Watch

The Quiksilver Waikiki Paddle Festival kicks off this Saturday May 5th, 2012 on the shores of Waikiki. With all the world’s top racers here to compete it’s going to be a jam packed exciting weekend. The C4 Ohana will be there in full support of the event and our competing ambassadors. We hope you can make it down to share in the stoke and the fun. Below is some of the great things we have on offer thru the weekend. Make sure you follow us on Facebook & Twitter for the latest updates and team news.

Travis Grant: Travis won on this race course last year beating the world’s best at their own game. With another year under his belt along with a gold medal at the ISA games in Peru, Travis seems set and relaxed to do battle once again with the latest top competitors.

Eric Leu: Do not underestimate this 5’6″ tall Tahitian powerhouse. He’s got the weight of his entire island behind him and brings along his ace-in-the-hole, dynamic coach and fellow waterman, Raimana Van Bastolaer.

Mariko Strickland: Mariko is looking to get busy this race weekend. With plenty of training under her belt and a new ring on her finger, look to her for a strong race.

Terrene Black: This Australian dark horse has already made a name for herself in the Aussie race scene. Terrene is seeking to both make an impact and have a great experience racing in Hawaii for the first time.

SUP for Orphans

Our Trip was a Huge Success.
Thanks to all the volunteers, our sponsors and those who donated.

I want to start by saying thank you, the trip would not have been possible with out everyones help. Now that the dust has settled and the kids at the orphanage are all basically SUP pros our real work begins.

In early February we were able to show up at the Casa-Guatemala Orphanage and School with a group of ten volunteers. Our crew had varied backgrounds and were from all over the US, UK and Mexico. Our volunteers ranged from guides to doctors and everything in between, we had all our bases covered . We were able to donate money we raised, contribute lots of medical supplies and buy materials for projects we worked on. We cleaned, painted, helped in the classroom, on the playground, on the water, and in the clinic.

When we arrived with the donations, via skiff, we were greeted by about 100 kids, they were so excited about the boards and us being there that we felt successful within five minutes off the dock. I don’t think I have laughed so hard or smiled so much ever.  Since the school, orphanage and surrounding villages are only accessible by boat all the kids are water babies and the first day we got them out on the paddleboards they showed us their stuff. I have never seen happier children who have so little. The kids were warm, affectionate and all smiles. They were so curious about us and swarmed our media guys or anyone holding a camera. The months of work and expense leading up to the trip was all worth it within seconds of being at the orphanage and getting all kids out on the water. With that being said there is still a lot of work to be done but, our group is as committed as ever.

One of the main objectives of the trip was to document the entire thing and create awareness for our cause. All the images and video we captured are amazing. Special thanks to Nicholas Laclair, our cinematographer, and Peter MCdermott, our Photographer, and all the other photographers and assistants that made it happen. We have some hurdles to overcome in order to get our piece edited and ready for the Teva Mountain Games Mountain Reel Film Festival in June. The end goal here is to help the kids and use the film as a platform for awareness and a way to generate exposure and money for the orphanage and school.

This week we will all be back to the states and editing footage and fundraising for the project. Stay tuned for updates and thanks for your help. Check out the Deflated site for images and updates from the project. Spread the word! Encourage people to DONATE! We should have a Kickstarter up soon and hope to generate a big part of our post production budget from that.

Thank You All So Much!

This entire trip came out of the Corridor SUP Think Tank. All Logistics, planning, shipping, travel, sponsor procurement, volunteer rousing and fundraising happened out of this small SUP shop in Boise Idaho. There is definitely more where this came from. We will be back in the Rio Dulce soon.
C4 WATERMAN
Thanks to C4 for donating a fleet of isups and paddles to our project.
All told they donated six boards to the orphanage, six paddles and two trekkers for the paddle out. We couldnt have done this trip with out their support. Who says you can’t paddle the distance on inflatables?
Thanks to GoPro for donating cameras and accessories to our trip. Since the bulk of the trip was water based and around kids their rugged waterproof cameras were a critical piece of the puzzle. One of our goals is to teach volunteers at the school how to film and upload video to their website so we can have steady updates on how the kids are doing.
Goal Zero graciously donated enough solar and battery components for us to power our entire project. Much of our trip was done in remote powerless areas. Having our own power supply at our base in Belize and on our entire trip in Guatemala made a huge difference in what we were able to achieve.

 Kids were Amazing!
